Hello fellow X-Men fans!

I thought you would be interested to hear that while browsing the interwebs, I found that a sequel to X-Men: First Class has officially been announced by 20th Century Fox!  I saw a projected release date of July 18th, 2014 here.  Apparently, the filming is somewhat being scheduled around Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games.  Once The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is finished, she will be jumping right in to play the role of Mystique in the new X-Men.

I am a big X-Men guy, so I am looking forward to this release because I think Marvel does a pretty good job making entertaining X-Men movies.  I thought that the mutants chosen in First Class had really awesome powers.  Seeing the mutants clash has always been my favorite part of the movies, so I hope they add some really cool characters to the lineup.

The one thing that irks me about the X-Men movies is that I wish they were more consistent and accurate to the comics.  Although, I do want to note that I really do appreciate the X-Men movies for the cinematic value.  But this was the main thing that bothered me about the X-Men series:

So, in chronological order of the storyline, First Class is the very first movie in the series.  Professor X and Magneto are young gents and are beginning to control their powers and continue to find themselves and their place in the war.  However, at the end of the movie, Prof. X becomes paralyzed.  Now let’s fast-forward to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where all of the characters are older.  At the end of the movie, Prof. X telepathically guides Cyclops to lead all of the prisoner mutants out.  When they emerge from the building, an older Prof. X [compared to First Class] is standing there…not paralyzed.  I am sure that there are many other inconsistencies, especially when comparing the movie accuracy to the comics, but that pretty much my only annoyance.

I like to go into movies (that are based on other things, such as comics or books) with an open mind.  It is another way to express an art form and story.  People can be a little too critical sometimes.  Just enjoy the show!

However! I will give you two fun facts that I hope to see in the sequel to First Class!  These points are true in the comic books, so I am curious to see if they will carry over.

  1. Havoc (the guy who shoots the red beam of destruction out of his chest), Cyclops (red beam out of the eyes), and another character, Vulcan, are brothers in the comics.
  2. Nightcrawler (the blue guy who can teleport) is the child of two characters from First Class.  Azazel (the red guy who can teleport) and Mystique (the blue woman who can transform into other people) walk away with Magneto at the end of First Class, so who knows if any hint of a relationship will ensue!

Till next time!

~Ian
