You play as Twinsen, a young hero living on Citadel Island on a world under the heel of the dictator Dr. FunFrock. You’ve been having strange dreams in which your planet is about to be destroyed. These dreams don’t make Dr. FunFrock particularly happy, and he locks you away in an insane asylum. As Twinsen, you’ll need to escape from your cell and discover your incredible destiny as a descendant of a long line of magicians in charge of protecting your planet’s secret!

Originally developed by Adeline Software International in 1994 for PC and PlayStation, the early 90s classic has returned to iOS and Andriod. Classic video game fans have rejoiced as Little Big Adventure (also known as ‘Relentless: Twinsen’s Adventure’)  has returned in association with DotEmu. DotEmu has brought a slew of new features, including gameplay tutorials, 5 languages,  a zoom feature, an improved interface, and much more backed into the 15 hours of gameplay that Little Big Adventure provides. For those looking to go on this adventure, you can do so via iTunes, Google Play, and the Amazon App Store.

Having not played Little Big Adventure before, I was quite intrigued by this game. Watching the opening cutscene, I was immediately thrown back to a time of polygons and pixels that made me smile of an early time in video game infancy. You make your way through rooms and hallways, fighting security guards and dodging obstacles in order to escape the clutches of Dr. FunFrock. The game is engaging and is worth checking out to relive a classic, but due to the time period in which it was developed, it presents some annoyances. Mostly, the movement system is very frustrating. A point, click, and walk movement system left me constantly left me getting stuck from catching the edges of tables and doorways. The graphics are also pretty dated, but that goes without saying considering this is a remake of a 1994 game. For fans that grew up playing this game, you will be ecstatic to relive the adventure on your mobile device. For players who may not be as familiar with the title, definitely have patience with this game. Games like Little Big Adventure were a stepping stone in gaming’s history, and now is your opportunity to live it!
