This blog is an homage to one of my favorite Marvel characters: the one and only Deadpool.
For those unfamiliar with the character, Deadpool is one of the most popular characters in the Marvel Universe. He is incredible sarcastic, witty, and is notorious for breaking the fourth wall. He is literally a killing machine. He is an unstoppable killing force and also has a healing factor for the battles that leave him battered and bruised. His portrayal in X-Men Origins: Wolverine was a pretty unjust representation of the awesome character, but fortunately, I have heard a new movie is in the works, that will hopefully do Deadpool right.
If you were a comic fan, you probably heard about the new summer mini-series: Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe.
This series was a 4-part mini series, and from what I heard, it was pretty popular. Personally, I liked the series. [mild spoilers to ensue] I am not usually a fan of jumping into series that are in the middle of a story, but this was an easy read. The plot involves the ‘bad’ voice inside Deadpool’s head finally snapping and Deadpool killing the entire Marvel Universe. Heroes and villains are unable to stop Deadpool as he goes on a killing rampage. It was great getting to see so many Marvel characters appear within just four issues. Unfortunately, this often lead to very quick battles and uncreative killing, which left many readers unsatisfied. However, for such a small series, I thought it was a fun read. It was quick, highlighted a bunch of characters, and had a creative ending.
Overall, I give the series a 3.5/5
For those looking to get into a Deadpool series (and like me, don’t like jumping in mid-way through), you will have the perfect opportunity to start with Marvel NOW!. Marvel NOW! will be starting a brand new Deadpool series from issue #1. If the fact that the cover has Deadpool fighting a dinosaur has any indication on the quality of the book, I have hight hopes. Issue #1 comes out November 7th.
For our gamers out there, I hope that you have seen this trailer:
I have high hopes for Deadpool: The Game. I think it will give a lot of lawls to gamers. The ‘pew pew pew’s get me every time. In no way do I expect this game to be the greatest game of all time, but I think it will be a fun play. I hope it does not flop like Duke Nukem did, which had a similar ridiculousness-filled gameplay. I think the Deadpool game creators have enough creativity and good writing that will make this a solid game.
