A thousand apologies for the lack of posts lately.  The staff at G&C has been pretty swamped with work and other summer-related activities.  However!  We are still doing our best to keep you up-to-date on the topics we are researching.  I thought this would be a great time to go into a popular topic in the Marvel Universe called ‘Marvel NOW!

I have been waiting to post about this topic because I was finding it very difficult to find a detailed description as to what this movement actually is, as well as information regarding which series Marvel NOW! is going to affect.  In essence, Marvel Now! is a movement in the Marvel comic franchise.  Many are comparing it to DC’s ‘The New 52‘ movement, and although it is similar in idea, it also has important differences.

Marvel NOW! is similar to The New 52 in the idea that big things are changing for Marvel comics.  Some series are starting fresh, some series are ending, and others are even changing writers and direction.  I have also been told that Marvel asked some of its top writers what they would like to write about, and have given them the creative outlet that they want to work on.

For new comic readers that enjoyed the fact that The New 52 started with #1 issues, you will be ecstatic to hear that Marvel NOW! will be featuring #1 issues of popular characters such as Captain America, Hulk, Deadpool, and many more  (many of which will be released in November)!

Here is a link to a page Newsarama posted that talks about ‘what we actually do know’ that some of you may find interesting.

I have not been able to find an official Marvel release about what will be released, but this forum seemed to know a lot about the topic

Here is the supposed Marvel NOW! titles that will be starting with #1 issues:

  1. All-New X-Men
  2. Avengers
  3. Avengers Assemble
  4. Captain America
  5. Deadpool
  6. Fantastic Four
  7. FF
  8. The Indestructible Hulk
  9. Iron Man
  10. New Avengers
  11. Red She-Hulk
  12. Thor: God of Thunder
  13. Uncanny Avengers
  14. Wolverine [unconfirmed if true]
  15. X-Men Legacy

Along with these new titles being released, Marvel also has some upcoming cancellations:

  1. New Mutants
  2. Uncanny X-Men
  3. Punisher
  4. Defenders
  5. Journey Into Mystery [unconfirmed if true]

There are definitely a lot of upcoming Avenger titles in comparison to the rest of the series, so hopefully one of them will stick out more than the rest and be a really great read.  What am I looking forward to?  I am very excited for Iron ManDeadpool, and Thor: God of Thunder.  The only thing I wish is that there was some type of Spider-Man in the upcoming list of #1s.  I have recently been reading the Miles Morales/Peter Parker crossover, Spider-Men, and have found that to be a really fun mini-series.  I think this would be a really great opportunity to add a new Spider-Man title, but I remain hopeful that there is something in the works.

What are you looking froward to?
