I posted a bit about this game when it was discussed at the E3 conference over the summer, but I am genuinely excited about PlaysStation All-Stars Battle Royale. With its upcoming release November 20th release date, I have been researching for the full list of playable characters. Here is the full list:
There are currently two character categories: The confirmed characters and the speculative characters.
The 20 playable characters include:
- Big Daddy (BioShock) Stats
- Cole MacGrath (Infamous) Stats
- Evil Cole MacGrath (Infamous) Stats
- Colonel Radec (Killzone) Stats
- Dante (Devil May Cry) Stats
- Fat Princess (Fat Princess) Stats
- Heihachi Mishima (Tekken) Stats
- Jak and Daxter (Jak and Daxter) Stats
- Kratos (God of War) Stats
- Nariko (Heavenly Sword) Stats
- Nathan Drake (Uncharted) Stats
- PaRappa the Rapper (PaRappa the Rapper) Stats
- Raiden (Metal Gear) Stats
- Ratchet and Clank (Ratchet & Clank) Stats
- Sackboy (LittleBigPlanet) Stats
- Sir Daniel Fortesque (Medievil) Stats
- Sly Cooper (Sly Cooper) Stats
- Spike (Ape Escape) Stats
- Sweet Tooth (Twisted Metal) Stats
- Toro Inoue (Together Everywheere! Doko Demo Issyo) Stats
Here is the list of characters that have not been confirmed, but they have been hinted at or referenced to potentially be a character in the future. The current idea is that some (or all) of these characters may be part of a DLC in the future. Some of the characters are rumored to be in contract negotiations to determine who has rights to use the characters.
- Snake (Metal Gear Solid
- Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII)
- Connor Kenway (Assassin’s Creed)
- Wander (Shadow of Colossus)
- Crash Bandicoot (Crash Bandicoot)
Now, although I think this game is going to be pretty awesome, I think PlayStation is completely dropping the ball with the character lineup. This game is clearly a spin off of Nintendo’s popular Super Smash Bros. series, but there is one key difference. Super Smash Bros. Brawl had 35 different characters included. Not only that, but the characters were seemingly from all game franchises throughout Nintendo’s history. PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale has a mere 20 characters, the majority of which seem to be from the newer games. Not only that, but there are two Cole MacGrath characters?! Who decided that would be a better idea opposed to a totally new character with a different fighting style? Where is Spyro or any character from a Final Fantasy game? Why is Crash an unconfirmed character? As a kid, these are the series that I grew up with and I want to seem them in full fighting glory. If I am going to drop $60 on a new game, I want the game to have everything. I think the developers could have added at least another 5 characters. I really like the unconfirmed character list, but DLC is usually associated with more money, which I think is absolutely ridiculous. Instead of leaving gamers wanting more, I wish that developers would go the extra distance and give us a game that we are over-the-top excited for.
