The highly anticipated Fox prequel series Gotham recently cast actor Cory Michael Smith to be Edward Nygma, the future Riddler. The series follows James Gordon’s ride through a “dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil” and the birth of DC comics super villains and vigilantes in Gotham city.
In the FOX project, Nygma is the brilliant yet socially awkward forensic scientist who works for the Gotham PD. FOX announced the Riddler’s favorite attributes like his use of cryptic language will be included in the series. Smith will guest star in the pilot with an option to become a series regular.
The promo photos released by FOX are a hot topic with their dark and gloomy city landscapes, smokey mists and the characters looking grumpy and defeated, but that’s Gotham City for you. So far the crime drama/super hero/gritty city series includes Ben McKenzie as Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, Robin Lord Taylor as The Penguin, Camren Bicondova as a teenage Selina Kyle and more. Even Jada Pinkett Smith is thrown in the mix as Fish Mooney, a notorious gangster although not in the comics.
Now riddle me this, will Gotham be as successful as ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or the CW’s Arrow? Only time will tell, but comic fans and critics alike are eager to find out.
