For those that attended PAX East 2017, you likely could not help but notice the large crowd testing Transformers: Forged to Fight, the new 3D-action fighter featuring our favorite robots in disguise. Keep reading to learn more about this new action brawler:
Transformers: Forged to Fight is the latest installment of the Transformers video game franchise. However, Kabam, the development studio behind the game, has taken a hard rework of what we should expect out of a Transformers game.
The game describes itself as “a new 3D action-fighter and character collection game that gives players access to nearly every era of the franchise’s history, challenging gamers to assemble the ultimate team of Transformers characters, including Autobots and Decepticons from the animated TV series, blockbuster films, as well as fan-favorites from the Transformers comic book series and Hasbro’s line of iconic figures. As fans assemble their team, they will forge alliances, battle other players and dive into a unique storyline that goes beyond good versus evil”.
Possibly one of the most interesting aspects of the game, and easily overlooked, is the fact that Kabam has incorporated a lot of the Transformers we know and love. With over 40 unique playable Transformers and numerous skins for each character (movie and non-movie), there should be a Transformer that fans from any media should recognize.
Kabam has taken a new approach to Transformers, which is heavily battle-focused. More recently, Transformers games have taken an open world concept, where players are free to explore and battle as they encounter enemies. However, Forged to Fight is much more battle focused, reminiscent of older arcade-style games. The battles system in Forged to Fight is best described as a “pie” rotational board. Players battle two-dimensionally on a three-dimensional board. Players can move left to right, but also in a circular rotation around the board. This new battle system works great for a mobile device, such as an iPad, as it allows for players to develop strategic movements to try to trap players for maximum damage.
Best of all, the development team recognizes that the love for Transformers stems from their ability to actually transform. One of the most impressive aspects of Forged to Fight is the seamless transition from robot to transformation (car, plane, tank, etc.). These transformation act similar to “super moves”, dealing more damage or a different type of damage compared to your standard attacks. These transformations are fast, within a split second, you have transformed and are back to your fighting robot stance. These transformations, paired with the 3-dimensional board, create for a really fun combat game.
Transformers: Forged to Fight is available now on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
