Meet the Writers

The Line-Up:

Ian Gaudreau (founder, columnist):

Bio: Ian has been collecting video game from a young age and has always been fascinated by the world of superheroes.  The decision to start G&C was to continue his love of researching gaming and comic knowledge while spreading his findings to others.  He considers these hobbies to be fundamental in fostering a healthy imagination.  If there is anything Ian agrees with more, it is that an imagination knows no creative bounds.

Superpowers: Possesses a cowlick so strong it can ward of enemies.  Superhero encyclopedia. Moderately good hand-eye coordination. Once got an 11.5 K/D in a Control match on Destiny.

Favorite Video Games: Final Fantasy VII, The Last of Us, Pokémon Red, Kingdom Hearts, Destiny, God of War, Bastion, Halo 3, Mario Kart: Double Dash, Fable, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Binding of Isaac, and Galaga

Favorite Anime and Shows: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Doctor Who, Firefly, Death Note, Attack on Titan, Avatar, Samuari Champloo, and Cowboy Bebop

Curtis Hines (columnist):

Bio: When Curtis read his first comic, he was just a kid in a barber shop waiting to get his hair cut. Since then he has transcended to a new level of comic being, at one with the universes (both Marvel and DC).  Curtis also enjoys videogames, and fondly remembers getting his ass handed to him in Battlefront by his younger brother. This guy is currently attending college, studying English in New Hampshire.

Superpowers: He can travel forwards through time. Slowly. Also he has vision so good he doesn’t need glasses.

Favorite Videogames: Final Fantasy VII, IX and X, Kingdom Hearts 2, Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal, and Pokémon: Silver

Favorite Comic Book Series: Uncanny X-Men, Batman, Saga, Fantastic Four, Uncanny X-Force, Justice League, and Amazing Spider- Man

Brie Young (columnist):

Brie YoungBio: Some were born nerds, some achieve nerdom and some read the Lord of the Rings series when they were twelve and attempted for far too long to learn the elven language with her sister. An avid movie and book buff, Brie can obscurely quote films rather than remembering more normal, useful things. Far too obsessed with all things Doctor who, Firefly, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and such, she is recently breaking into the comic book world and hopes to expand her horizons one issue at a time. Brie currently attends college in the state of New Hampshire and studies Communication and English.

Superpowers: Possess a strangely accurate Nigel Thornberry impersonation, mental dictionary of punny jokes, a photographic memory that sadly was never developed (see what I did there), ability to obtain no broken bones while lacking a sturdy equilibrium.

Amy Arsenault (social media & marketing, columnist):

Bio: A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, Amy’s love of Star Wars first began. The franchise introduced her to a world of science fiction and fantasy, and the obsession has since expanded to include Doctor Who, Star Trek, Firefly and The Lord of the Rings. Amy takes pride in the fact that she has visited the Shire and has personally returned “the ring” to Mount Doom (you can all rest easy). More recently she has begun exploring the world of comic books and anime. Amy currently attends the University of New Hampshire and studies Environmental Conservation and Sustainability.

Superpowers: Has the ability to trip, stumble and fall over everything, including thin air, can speak to animals and can apply a Dumb & Dumber, Star Wars or Spaceballs quote to any situation.

Favorite Movies & Shows: Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Firefly, Spaceballs, Harry Potter, Back to the Future, Dumb & Dumber, Hunger Games

Kristilyn Waite (columnist):

KristilynBio:  Kristilyn is an aspiring comics creator and scholar.  She is currently studying illustration at SMFA in Boston.  She wishes she were a better artist, but she’s getting there.  She is not like other nerds, and is often clueless as to what her super nerdy boyfriend and the others are even talking about.  She does love comics, though, especially the non-traditional sort that deal with love and other emotions and the human condition and philosophy and stuff.

Superpowers:  Does my hair count?

Favorite Video Games: Mario Kart, Bust A Move

Favorite Comics:  Daytripper, Steed and Mrs. Peel, Local, Love and Rockets, Moonshadow, and, newly, Lumberjanes!

Favorite Graphic Novels:  Asterios Polyp, Jar of Fools, Lost at Sea, Alan Moore’s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen series

Mike Sauvageau (columnist):

MikeBio: Born in the same toxic waste that produced the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mike was brought into this world for one reason: to geek out. He has been reading comics and playing video games since the tender age of 5, and has subsequently devoted his life to rescuing the Princess and avenging the death of Bruce Wayne’s parents. Whether it is an extensive conversation on Alan Moore’s bibliography, or all night sleepover for the sake of a Star Wars marathon, Mike is always looking for a chance to express his inner nerd with those who would like to join forces.

Superpowers: The ability to a quote movie in any given conversation, the capability of turning any word into a pun, the power of (once) knocking out Mike Tyson in Punch Out, and the mind control to convince anyone that Han did, in fact, shoot Greedo first.

Favorite Video Games: Ocarina of Time, Castlevania, Pacman, Goldeneye, Shadows of the Empire, Super Mario All-Stars, Pokémon Snap, and Wario’s Woods.

Favorite Movie and Shows: Jaws, Halloween, Indiana Jones Trilogy (No Crystal Skull) Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, Back to the Future, Twin Peaks, Twilight Zone, Freaks and Geeks, and Batman: The Animated Series.

Favorite Comic Book Series: Watchmen, Swamp Thing, Batman, Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash, The Amazing Spider-Man, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Justice League.

Eddie Donovan (columnist):

Bio: Eddie was destined for nerdiness since he inherited his first NES at the tender age of 4. Many years (ahing up on some of his favorite anime and manga. Eddie is in his senior year at the University of New Hampshire stnd hours of Mike Tyson’s Punch Out) later, he now spends the majority of his free time browsing the Zelda wiki and catc

dying Environmental Conservation, and hopes that you find his wit as hilarious as he does.

Superpowers: Still has all of his limbs, and an uncanny ability to overlook gaping plot holes in a story he is invested in.

Favorite Video Games: The Legend of Zelda series, Final Fantasy VII & VIII, Counter Strike: Source, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion & Skyrim, Kingdom Hearts series, Fallout: New Vegas

Favorite Comic Book Series: Fullmetal Alchemist, Naruto, Trigun, Justice League

Connor MacDonald (columnist):

Gaming and reading comics since he discovered them on his home planet, Connor has always classified himself as a “nerd”. While Connor loves Spider-Man comics more than his own non-existent children, you’ll probably find him playing video games more often than thumbing through the latest issue. Retro, handheld, PC, and current consoles, he tries to play them all, and he’s joining G&C to let you know which ones are worth the money, and which should be dropped off a cliff. Connor currently attends Plymouth State University, and is majoring in Multimedia Communication Studies, a mix of film, computer science, and writing. He hopes to one day have his own books, movies, and fitness tapes in stores around the world

Superpowers: Lightning/Electricity manipulation for style and power, cloning abilities for chores and multitasking, and the ability to wipe books, movies, and video games from his memories at will to relive the magic of his favorites. (And forget the bad ones)

Favorite Comic Book Series: The Amazing Spider-Man, Naruto, Batman, Wolverine, Fear Itself, Thor, Earth X series, 1602 Marvel series, Marvel Noir, Kingdom Come, Fullmetal Alchemist, Old Man Logan, and Venom

Joel Kost (columnist):

Bio: The bearded man with lens-less real D 3D glasses that stands before you is the official walking Transformers encyclopedia.  Seriously, ask him a question about the robots in disguise and he’ll probably know the answer. Joel has been a gamer ever since he was small, starting with games like Tetris and Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening for the original Gameboy (the gray brick). Comics have been a relatively recent interest in Joel’s life, but his passion for them is just as strong as video games. Joel attends college in the state of New Hampshire, and studies English and journalism.

Superpowers: Super powerful thumbs, unwavering procrastination, and an unquenchable curiosity.

Favorite Video Games: Pokémon Silver, Dead Space 1 and 2, Transformers: War for Cybertron, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Bastion, Kingdom Hearts 2, Hydro Thunder, and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Favorite Comic Book Series: Bone, Transformers, The Walking Dead, and One Piece

Michael Houle (columnist):

Bio: A life-long comic fan, Michael may or may not always wear a spandex uniform underneath his street clothes.  While he finds video games a blast, he still cannot even beat his retro Sega Genesis games.  He has joined the ranks of G&C to share his love of Comicology and entertain you all while doing so.  Michael is currently working towards an MAT in New Hampshire in addition to studying Studio Art and Women’s Studies.  And by the way, the top item on his bucket list is to pencil a professionally published comic book.

Superpowers: Dimples of steel, a beard of gold, the ability to turn a paintbrush into a magic wand, and a dangerous wit.

Favorite Video Games: Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Sonic the Hedgehog, Columns, Crash Team Racing, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and Pokémon Blue
