Wasn’t Avatar: The Last Airbender an incredible show? Fans of the show probably already know this, but the show ran from 2005 to 2008 and was separated into three seasons. However, did you know that there is technically a 4th season that continued after the show?
The seasons were known as ‘Books’: Book 1: Water, Book 2: Earth, Book 3: Fire. The Books highlighted Aang’s journey to master all four elements and defeat the Fire Lord. With the Fire Lord defeated and the four nations living together in harmony, all seemed to be back to normal. However, there is a 4th Book entitled “The Promise” and is actually in graphic novel form. The Promise is separated into three parts and the second book just came out this week. It is a direct continuation after the events from the television series and readers hope that it will fill in some of the gaps that the show left out.
The Promise (at the moment at least) highlights Fire Lord Zuko as he tries to correct his father’s wrongs and create a more respectable Fire Nation. Although Zuko would like to obey Avatar Aang’s wishes and reduce the Fire Nation back to its original geographical range, members of the Fire Nation begin to accuse Zuko of not being a strong leader. Zuko must deal with the struggle of making his nation happy, while simultaneously trying to create peace.
And most importantly, readers are hoping that The Promise will answer the most prominent question from fans: What happened to Zuko’s mother? The Promise is expected to also provide a better tie-in leading to the start of the Legend of Korra.
I cannot wait to find out!
Also, this would probably be a great place for me to say that I am really enjoying Avatar: The Legend of Korra. The show follows Korra, who is the next Avatar after Aang. The world is older and technology has been increasing, so Korra must deal with a whole slew of new challenges. You can watch the trailer for the show here and you can watch full episodes of the show at Nick.com.
Enjoy!
