If any of you have been browsing comic news or have been on Twitter today, then you probably have heard about this.  The upcoming #2 issue of ‘Earth 2‘ will reintroduce Green Lantern (Alan Scot) as a gay character.

This is the link that DC Comics provided in their tweet.

Personally, I think this is a good move by DC Comics.  Times are changing.  DC showing that they support homosexuality and are not afraid to alter some of their characters is smart.  I was a little disappointed to see so many negative tweets about the subject, most of which were misinformed:

Alan Scott is the true identity of the Green Lantern in the Earth 2 series.  Alan Scott is the character that will be reintroduced as a gay character.  He is actually the first ever Green Lantern, so his character is pretty important in comic history.

The movie, Green Lantern, and the Green Lantern that is in Justice League is a different Green Lantern.  Hal Jordan is the true identity of this Green Lantern and was portrayed by Ryan Reynolds.

I think it is important to distinguish the two characters because this is a proud time for DC Comics and if people are going to talk about the subject, they should at be talking about the right thing.

I look forward to seeing how the handle the subject in Issue #2.  It will also be interesting to see if DC plays with the idea of other characters in Earth 2 accepting or not accepting the announcement by Green Lantern.  Here at G&C, we proudly say that we support you Green Lantern :)
