Dark Horse Comics’ #WheresSerenity teaser released in August

In just 14 short episodes, Joss Whedon was able to create an instant cult classic that has left fans begging for more Firefly since its premature cancellation back in 2003.  Fortunately, fans will be able to follow the old gang in the form of a comic book series published by Dark Horse Comics entitled Serenity: Leaves On the Wind, which will release 29 January 2014.

The intriguing science-fiction space western featured a group of misfits flying on a spaceship working for hire.  Due to some controversial issues regarding problems with Fox, who was responsible for airing the show, the series was unfortunately cancelled ten years ago after just one season.  A movie was released in 2005, entitled Serenity, which attempted to tie off some of the loose ends featured in the television series.

Serenity: Leaves On the Wind is written by Zack Whedon (brother of Joss Whedon) and illustrated by Georges Jeanty.  The title is inspired by Wash’s last words from the Serenity film, “I am a leaf on the wind…”.  The story will pick up right after the events of the Serenity film, so it may be worth re-watching to familiarize yourself with what happened.  Serenity: Leaves On the Wind was announced as a 6 issue mini-series, but has the potential for more issues depending on its success.
