The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are no strangers to the video game world, with a number of video game installments spanning many consoles and mobile devices. After a series a leaks and high speculation, this week brought the official big announcement of the next game for the franchise, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan.
It started with some leaked ratings, trophy lists, cover art, and finally, screenshots. The buildup to TMNT: Mutants in Manhattan has surely been an exciting ride. This week, the official announcement debuted describing that Activision and Platinum Games are working on the game. The cover art, and even the in-game artwork, are very similar to Mateus Santolouco‘s artwork on the IDW TMNT comic book series. There is still relative silence regarding if Santolouco is involved, but since the announcement, he has retweeted some information about the game.
This game looks really refreshing. The last several games in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have received sub-par reviews. With the increased popularity from the cartoon show, live action movies, and IDW comic series, this may be the perfect time to dive back into the video game market. The artistic style in the trailer really pops, which is reminiscent of Borderlands meets South Park. Activision and Platinum Games recently collaborated on Transformers: Devastation, which had a very similar style. With little gameplay shown in this trailer, it is still unknown how the combat system will be, but hopefully the development team incorporates plenty of Turtle Power. We here at Game&Comic are keeping our fingers crossed for an online cooperative mode.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan is slated for a Summer 2016 release and will be available on Xbox One, PS4, PC, Xbox 360, and PS3
