When word got out that the two franchises Pokemon and Nobunaga’s Ambition would be collaborating on a project, no one knew what to expect. Pokemon is all about collecting and raising hundreds of monsters in a journey to be the very best Pokemon trainer. Nobunaga’s Ambition, however, focuses on turn based strategic combat in an attempt to unify feudal Japan. Could two such different games such as these successfully mesh together? The answer is yes. Pokemon Conquest is the change of pace that Pokemon fans have been waiting for. By taking the qualities that make both series so lovable, Nintendo and Tecmo Koei were able to deliver one of the best gaming experiences on the DS. (more…)

As an avid Kingdom Hearts fan, I think I can speak for everyone when I say that we have been waiting far too long for the next installment of Sora’s journey. Even though Dream Drop Distance doesn’t come out for a little less than a month, Nintendo has kindly put up a demo of the game on the Nintendo 3DS’ eShop. But is it any good? Read on to find out! Today is a big day for Mass Effect fans; the free, extended ending DLC for Mass Effect 3 will be available for download for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. In case you haven’t heard, Mass Effect 3’s conclusion made many fans feeling disappointed, confused, and even betrayed. This new DLC isn’t exactly a new ending for the game, but rather an extension, giving players more dialogue options and showing the fate of many characters seen throughout the Mass Effect trilogy. Say hello to Surface, Microsoft’s first tablet device
Posted: June 19, 2012 by Joel Kost in Gamenomics - Video Games, Microsoft/XboxTags: iPad, Kindle Fire, Microsoft, Microsoft/Xbox, PC, Smart Glass, Surface, Windows
Microsoft revealed its very first tablet device yesterday during it’s press event in Los Angeles, called Surface, and man does it look pretty. At first glance it looks like any other tablet: very flat with a large screen. In terms of aesthetics, however, what sets this tablet apart from all the iPads and Kindle Fires is its integrated kickstand. In the video above it seems that the kickstand simply snaps into place when needed, and folds back against the tablet just as easily. While this isn’t a major innovation, it certainly is a cool feature. There is also the 3 mm thick Touch Cover, which is showcased in the video. Rather than buying an overly priced cover and a keyboard for your tablet separately, Microsoft has kindly made them into one accessary. Available in an array of colors, the Touch Cover is more than just a keyboard attachment. Rather than using buttons, it uses a pressure sensitive system that allows the user to type much faster than using a standard touch screen.
New and old franchises: Nintendo needs to mix things up for the Wii U

Two of the things that make Nintendo games so lovable are the magical worlds and the characters that inhabit them. I don’t know a single person who doesn’t like exploring Hyrule as Link or saving the Mushroom Kingdom with the Mario Bros. But gamers have been doing these same things with these same characters for over two decades. With a new Nintendo home console on the way, I say it’s time mix things up; I want to see new and original franchises and older ones that we haven’t seen in years. Here are some games that I think need to make a comeback. (more…)

Dead Space 3: it’s definitely happening, but will it be scary?
Posted: June 4, 2012 by Joel Kost in Gamenomics - Video Games, Microsoft/Xbox, Sony/PlayStationHappy E3 everyone! While Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo focus on their technology as well as actual games, it’s the EA and Ubisoft press conferences that tend to reveal the bulk of the titles. This year EA revealed the highly anticipated third numbered entry in the popular Dead Space franchise, and I am BEYOND excited. The Dead Space games are some of my favorite titles, and so far the games have never disappointed. But, as fans know, Dead Space belongs to the horror genre, and as past horror games have shown (like F.E.A.R 3 and Resident Evil 5) horror sequels have a tendency to to deliver a lackluster experience. Dead Space 2 was a great game and still managed to scare the pants off of me, but there are plenty of reasons to believe that Dead Space 3 won’t be scary.
