During today’s Nintendo Direct (or Pokemon Direct, as it has been called) Pokemon versions X and Y were announced along with a trailer, release date, and three all new starter Pokemon. Pokemon X and Y will hit store shelves worldwide on October 13 for the 3DS, making these the first 3D entries in the main series (and also the first games that aren’t named after a color).

Enroll in Monsters University

In spectacular fashion, Pixar has released a new teaser trailer for the upcoming film Monsters University, which mimics those cheesy college commercials that try and highlight the bright atmosphere of higher education. While the trailer doesn’t show Mike and Sully, it certainly delivers a good laugh (especially for college students). And, even better, the website that’s advertised at the end of the video is real; you can actually go to the Monster’s University website. Unfortunately, admissions are closed until next fall, but you can still navigate around the entire site.

My favorite games of 2012

2012 has been one hell of a year for gaming. With the beginning of a new generation of consoles just around the corner, game developers and publishers have been trying their absolute hardest to get as many triple-A titles out on store shelves as they can. In doing so, they’ve made the last year of the current generation of consoles unforgettable. We also saw the release of the PSVita and the Wii U, and the continuing rise of iOS and Android games. So, in honor of a fantastic year of gaming, I’ve decided to compile a list of my favorite titles of 2012.

I really don’t have that much time to play console games during the school year. Even with games like Borderlands 2, Assassin’s Creed 3, and Halo 4 out on store shelves, I just can’t find the time to really sit down and play a solid hour or two of my favorite video games. That’s where my iPhone come in. Aside from satisfying my addiction to Twitter and Instagram, I use my phone to get a quick gaming fix through out the day. There are thousands (maybe even millions!) of games on the app store, so trying to find some good ones can be challenging.

If you’re like me, and can’t find something worth playing, you’re in luck! These are my top five favorite iOS games that are definitely worth checking out.

Today is a big day for many gamers: Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and LEGO Lord of the Rings finally hit store shelves. Black Ops 2 has already been receiving fantastic reviews by other gaming sites, and LEGO Lord of the Rings will probably get high scores too.

But that’s not the real news for the day. According to the Game Informer website, both games have been having major shipping issues.

What kind of issues, you ask? Well to start, LEGO’s latest adventure has been shipping demo discs instead of the actual game. Oops! So if you’re planning on picking it up today, check your game before you leave so you can get your money back.

Now for Black Ops 2. So far this seems to have only affected one person, but when a CoD fan put in his disc to download, he ended up with Mass Effect 2!  I can understand accidentally shipping a demo disc; mistakes happen. But shipping a game that is three years old AND belongs to a completely different publisher? That’s messed up.

So, if you’re buying either of these games today, make sure you check your discs!

This fall is a big season for video games. August saw the release of Tranformers: Fall of Cybertron, the best rated Transformers video game of all time. One month later, Borderlands 2 came out, and wowed gamers with its improved storyline and in-depth FPS and RPG gameplay elements. And now gamers can enjoy Assassin’s Creed 3 and Halo 4, shortly followed by the release of the Wii U. With all these games (and more) to compete against, standing out from the crowd right now is, at the very least, an incredibly tough challenge to overcome. After playing the demo for Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, however, I can confidently say that this is another game that everyone should keep and eye on, even with all the other big name titles sitting on store shelves.

I have to say, Godzilla: The Half-Century War has surprised me. I never expected a Godzilla comic series to have such a strong narrative with likable characters and an interesting story; the first two issues set this series up to be something great. However, with too much going at once and a massive, a mostly unexplained time-gap, The Half-Century War #3 leaves the reader wanting more.

With Assassin’s Creed 3 only weeks away, I’ve been pumping myself up by watching it’s amazing trailers and gameplay footage. This got me thinking: what other trailers have I been completely obsessed with? Turns out there are many, but here are my top 5 game trailers that I think brought the most hype to a game. Enjoy!

In 2010 High Moon Studios proved to the world that good Transformers games actually exist with their title Transformers: War for Cybertron. By delivering fantastic third-person action gameplay, stellar multiplayer, and the ability to transform at any time, War for Cybertron was what Transformers fans have always dreamed of. The game, however, was far from perfect. The environments looked exactly the same, the enemy AI wasn’t all that smart, and the narrative of the story left players wanting more.

Fall of Cybertron fixes all of this. High Moon Studios wasn’t satisfied with only pleasing Transformers fans; they wanted to please hardcore gamers everywhere. Fall of Cybertron brings drastic changes to every aspect of the game, making it more of a re-imagining of War for Cybertron, rather than a sequel.
