We’ve all heard about the imprint the Beatles left on the world. We’ve seen the footage of those four handsome boys with matching mop tops and Pierre Cardin suits performing in vain before mobs of young banshees whose sobbing, swooning, and rapture were well beyond disruptive. By the end of the 1960‘s it was clear that a sort of paradigm shift had occurred in American culture, and, chicken or egg, Beatlemania is integral to that story. The Fab Four saw an entire generation through an era unparalleled in social tumult, metamorphosis, and mythology. While it’s difficult, in the here and now, to imagine a world without the Beatles, The Fifth Beatle : The Brian Epstein Story, writer/producer Vivek Tiwary’s love letter to the band’s original manager, reveals the underlying serendipity of it all.


Every Monday on G&C I’ll be previewing the new comics I’m most looking forward to in the coming week. These are the comics that I expect will be fun, exciting, and worth your monies. Dark Horse Comics revamped Avatar: The Last Airbender with the graphic novel continuing where the series left off. The latest installment follows Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph and a trio of very enthusiastic Air Acolytes to the sacred sight of the Ancient Air Nomad festival, only to find the land defiled by the Earthen Fire refinery.

In the past few years, we have seen the launch of the DC New 52, the relaunch with Marvel NOW!, and countless new series released by Image.  Starting in June, Dark Horse Comics will be joining the ranks with their version, Starting Points:

Blackout is a new series by Dark Horse Comics starring Scott Traverse.  The series is written by Frank Barbiere and Randy Stradley with artowrk by Colin Lorimer and Doug Wheatley.  Keep an eye out for Blackout #1, coming to a comic store by you on March 26th, 2014.
