Last week, Amazon acquired digital comics hub ComiXology, a combo app and store for comic books on digital devices. Business Insider predicted that the deal would “change the comic book industry forever.” Whether this is a positive or negative change who knows, however many comic fans lashed out.

Daps for Deadpool, Double Daps for Marvel
Posted: April 16, 2014 by Kristilyn Waite in Comicology - Comic Books, MarvelTags: cover art, Deadpool #27, G.I. Joe : America's Elite #25, Guiness Book of World Records, Marvel, Scott Koblish, Val Staples
When it rains, it pours, goes the old adage, one that has rung particularly true for Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, and the folks at Marvel, this past week. Deadpool #27, released on April 9th, commemorates Deadpool’s marriage to Shiklah, an ancient succubus. While, of course, this is cause for celebration in itself, the cover of this “enormously oversized” and “most important issue” features a giant group pic of all of the event’s attendees, and thereby sports a stamp marking its place in the Guinness Book of World Records for “most comic book characters on a single issue cover”.
“Translucid” #1 Review: 3.5 / 5

Every superhero has a supervillain; heck, some would even say that every superhero needs a supervillain. Superman has Lex Luthor, the Fantastic Four have Doctor Doom, and Batman has the Joker. These characters act as foils for one another; their strengths, weakness, and personality are complimentary. The question has been asked before: are supervillains essential to their superheros? Do they need each other to provide them with purpose, to fulfill their existence? This twisted relationship is at the heart of BOOM!’s newest six-part miniseries, “Translucid.”

Say it ain’t so. Coming this July, the lovelorn, freckly comic favorite, Archie Andrews will meet his fate after 73 teenage years in the business. One of the most recognized faces in American classic comics, the beloved comic star transformed into a pop culture icon, forever asking the question– who will he chose? Betty or Veronica?

“Lumberjanes” #1 Review: 4.5 / 5

Have you ever heard of the Bechdel movie test? It was popularized by Alison Bechdel (famous American cartoonist and graphic novelist) in her comic strip “Dykes to Watch Out For.” In order to pass the Bechdel test, a movie must have: 1) At least two named female characters; 2) Those characters have to talk to each other; 3) Their conversation has to be about something other than a man. You’d be surprised how few movies pass that test, but this applies to more than just movies. I read a lot of comics, and unfortunately most of them also fail the Bechdel test.
‘Gotham’ Series Adds Riddler

The highly anticipated Fox prequel series Gotham recently cast actor Cory Michael Smith to be Edward Nygma, the future Riddler. The series follows James Gordon’s ride through a “dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil” and the birth of DC comics super villains and vigilantes in Gotham city.

Adventure Time: The Flip Side #4 Review: 2/5

“Adventure Time: The Flip Side” is a topsy-turvy mini-series that upended my initial expectations. Unfortunately, the newest issue fails to deliver. “The Flip Side” #4 sacrifices some of the fun in the name of craziness and insanity, resulting in a muddled plot and a book that can be hard to understand.
