Throughout the Assassin’s Creed series we’ve traveled through different periods in time following the stories of Altair, Ezio, and Desmond as they fight the nefarious Templar order. In the final installment of Desmond’s story, Assassin’s Creed 3,  we become Connor, the Native American freedom fighter from the Revolutionary War era. We, the fans, were expecting an epic conclusion to the roller coaster story that we rode throughout the series, waiting for the inevitable bang at the end where we would most likely be left wanting more, but knowing the story of Desmond had reached its end. What we got  with Assassin’s Creed 3 instead was a plot line full of twists that went nowhere, unlikable characters, and one of the sorriest excuses for the end of a franchise that I’ve ever seen in gaming.

New Skyrim DLC: Heathfire

New Skyrim DLC: Heathfire

Well, the latest expansion for Skyrim came out on the Xbox 360 this week: The home moding DLC “Hearthfire”. Non-PC gamers around the world rejoiced “Finally! We can create cool houses and epic hideouts too!” I myself was amongst the jovial chorus, so I happily shelled out five dollars and sat by my TV, face aglow, as it downloaded. And much like a child who opens a box on Christmas morning only to find it filled with socks, the result was not what I expected.

Today is a big day for Mass Effect fans; the free, extended ending DLC for Mass Effect 3 will be available for download for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. In case you haven’t heard, Mass Effect 3’s conclusion made many fans feeling disappointed, confused, and even betrayed. This new DLC isn’t exactly a new ending for the game, but rather an extension, giving players more dialogue options and showing the fate of many characters seen throughout the Mass Effect trilogy. But why did fans demand such an action to be taken? Lets go over the reasons as to why Mass Effect 3’s ending is the most controversial finale this generation of gaming has seen. (more…)

Invites for the Dawnguard Beta were sent out this week, and out of the thousands of people who applied, only 0.5% of the applicants were accepted. Sadly, I was not among them. Ever since I first saw the trailer for the new Skyrim DLC, felt like an 8 year old waiting for Christmas morning. Luckily the tentative release date for the expansion is June 26, so I and all the other aspiring crossbow wielding vampires don’t have much longer to wait. But despite the hype, not too many people really know what the expansion is about. Here’s a quick overview of some of the things you can expect to see.

In world where cover based shooting is quickly becoming the norm, it’s nice to see a game that seems to require more than just running and gunning. The Last of Us is a game that takes its visual cues from the Uncharted series, mixed against the dystopian backdrop of a Stephen King novel.

Happy E3 everyone! While Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo focus on their technology as well as actual games, it’s the EA and Ubisoft press conferences that tend to reveal the bulk of the titles. This year EA revealed the highly anticipated third numbered entry in the popular Dead Space franchise, and I am BEYOND excited. The Dead Space games are some of my favorite titles, and so far the games have never disappointed. But, as fans know, Dead Space belongs to the horror genre, and as past horror games have shown (like F.E.A.R 3 and Resident Evil 5) horror sequels have a tendency to to deliver a lackluster experience. Dead Space 2 was a great game and still managed to scare the pants off of me, but there are plenty of reasons to believe that Dead Space 3 won’t be scary.

Is Kingdom Hearts one of your all-time favorite games?  I know that it is absolutely one of my favorites.  Addicting game play, an awesome story, and having the ability to fight alongside your childhood movie characters are all combined into this epic game.  With the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance soon to release (July 31st, 2012), Kingdom Hearts has been quite the buzz.  However, with so many side stories, the series has probably left many of you lost and not knowing what the heck is going on.  I am going to give the breakdown of each game and where it fits in the story.
