Grant Gustin made a positive impression with his introduction of his character in the CW’s Arrow last fall and the CW is running with Grant into the new series The Flash. Character Barry Allen arrives in Stirling, the home of the Green Arrow, as a forensic investigator assistant looking to unravel the death of his parents.

Geeky guy with a tragic past is transformed into a masked marvel by some freaky science—always reminded me of a Peter Parker type hero. The new five minute extended trailer mostly excited comic fans but also left a few lingering questions about the “fastest man alive”.

A literary graphic novel if ever there were one, The Dotter of Her Father’s Eyes is a hybrid of sorts. Partly, it is a biography of James Joyce’s daughter Lucia, a once promising ballerina who spent the last thirty years of her life in a mental institution. But Lucia’s tragic story is told via author Mary M. Talbot’s memoir.  An account of her own childhood and relationship with her father, James S. Atherton, one of the world’s foremost Joycean scholars, the story explores Talbot’s ensuing and inevitable affinity with Lucia.

Before Batman, there was Gotham.

Fox looks to reveal a new chapter in the Batman saga with the pre-commissioner life of James Gordon. The network seems to be trying to sell a Batman series without Batman? Part crime drama, part superhero origins, fans get to see their favorite icons in the corrupt streets of Gotham City, from The Penguin to Catwoman and Two-Face and The Joker…. as teenagers.

Harvey Award winning writer Joshua Hale Fialkov is well known for penning hair-raising horror titles including Echoes, I, Vampire, and Elk’s Run. The opening sequence of his upcoming Oni Press series, The Life After, may be his scariest scenario yet. In its plausibility…

Warner Brothers finally confirmed the rumors—the Justice League is coming to the big screen. Either in 2018 or summer 2017 (those details are still debatable), the film will be following the Man of Steel sequel in 2016. Greg Silverman, Warner Brothers Pictures president referred to the Man of Steel sequel as Superman Vs. Batman, so intentionally or not it seems we also have an official spoiler for the title.

The Justice League film will be directed by Zack Snyder, starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and Henry Cavill as Superman. Currently, the production for Superman Vs. Batman suggests there’ll be a possible overlap in filming to accommodate dual production schedules (Cavil is probably going to awfully tired of spandex after all that).

We’ve all heard about the imprint the Beatles left on the world. We’ve seen the footage of those four handsome boys with matching mop tops and Pierre Cardin suits performing in vain before mobs of young banshees whose sobbing, swooning, and rapture were well beyond disruptive. By the end of the 1960‘s it was clear that a sort of paradigm shift had occurred in American culture, and, chicken or egg, Beatlemania is integral to that story. The Fab Four saw an entire generation through an era unparalleled in social tumult, metamorphosis, and mythology. While it’s difficult, in the here and now, to imagine a world without the Beatles, The Fifth Beatle : The Brian Epstein Story, writer/producer Vivek Tiwary’s love letter to the band’s original manager, reveals the underlying serendipity of it all.

So close to the end folks, and the plot continues to get darker and denser. I genuinely have no idea where this comic is going from month to month, and I love it. “Midas Flesh” is a unique storytelling experience that keeps on getting better. The events of this issue will be kicking around in my head for days to come.
