Now that we are officially in 2013, and to keep up with our ‘Best of 2012’ blogs, I wanted to take a look back at the video games and comic books that made 2012 so awesome. In 2012, we saw some great video games, as well as some really big comic book events. The Wii U was released, DC’s New 52 is now in full force, and Marvel NOW! has continued to throw out some really big titles. Here is my breakdown of the ‘Best of 2012’:

During today’s Nintendo Direct (or Pokemon Direct, as it has been called) Pokemon versions X and Y were announced along with a trailer, release date, and three all new starter Pokemon. January 8th will be a big day for Pokemon fans, as the official Facebook page announced that pokemon.com will be revealing something huge. Rumors immediately began circulating as to what exactly this news could be, with people suggesting either an entire new generation of games or remakes of Pokemon Ruby Version and Sapphire Version.

Posted: January 6, 2013 by Michael Houle in Art, Comicology - Comic Books, Independent ComicsTags: AoS, Archeologists of Shadows, comicology, Lara Fuentes, once a nightmare, Patricio Clarey, Septagon Studios Inc., Volume 2
Back in November, gameandcomic.com reviewed the first volume of Archeologists of Shadows, The Resistance. We were big fans, particularly noting the book’s fantastic action sequences and dreamlike art. (Read Andrew’s full review of A.O.S. Vol. 1 here.) But is the second installment of Septagon Studios’ most ambitious project, Once a Nightmare, any good? Read the rest of this entry »

The top superheroes of 2012 are… Aquaman and Hawkeye?!
Posted: January 4, 2013 by Michael Houle in Comicology - Comic Books, DC Comics, Marvel, Movies & TelevisionTags: Aquaman, comicology, hawkeye, Marvel NOW!, Marvel's The Avengers, New 52
For over 70 years, Aquaman had been lauded by DC Comics as one of their most singularly important character properties alongside icons like Superman and Batman. Yet for all of DC’s posturing fans had never seemed to frame Aquaman as anything more than a silly, overrated merman who talks to fish. Marvel’s Hawkeye, with his gaudy purple uniform and yawn-worthy bow-and-arrow gimmick, had suffered a similar stigma throughout the years. However, 2012’s biggest industry initiatives—DC’s New 52, Marvel NOW, and Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’ movie series—have finally turned Aquaman and Hawkeye into exciting, profitable franchises. Enroll in Monsters University
Posted: January 2, 2013 by Joel Kost in Movies & TelevisionTags: Monsters University, pixar
In spectacular fashion, Pixar has released a new teaser trailer for the upcoming film Monsters University, which mimics those cheesy college commercials that try and highlight the bright atmosphere of higher education. While the trailer doesn’t show Mike and Sully, it certainly delivers a good laugh (especially for college students). And, even better, the website that’s advertised at the end of the video is real; you can actually go to the Monster’s University website. Unfortunately, admissions are closed until next fall, but you can still navigate around the entire site.
My favorite games of 2012
Posted: December 31, 2012 by Joel Kost in Gamenomics - Video GamesTags: 2012, Bad Piggies, Fez, Halo 4, Pokemon, Transformers
2012 has been one hell of a year for gaming. With the beginning of a new generation of consoles just around the corner, game developers and publishers have been trying their absolute hardest to get as many triple-A titles out on store shelves as they can. In doing so, they’ve made the last year of the current generation of consoles unforgettable. We also saw the release of the PSVita and the Wii U, and the continuing rise of iOS and Android games. So, in honor of a fantastic year of gaming, I’ve decided to compile a list of my favorite titles of 2012.
Superhero-Themed LEGO Sets
Posted: December 31, 2012 by Ian Gaudreau in DC Comics, MarvelTags: Avengers, Batman, Captain America, DC, Hulk, Iron Man, Lego, S.H.I.E.L.D., Spider-Man, Super Heroes, Thor
In the wake of the successful superhero movies and other pop culture phenomena, LEGO followed suite by releasing its line of superhero play sets earlier this year. In my opinion, these sets are a fantastic move on LEGO’s part. What a great way to bring the superhero culture to a different industry. The mini-figures area incredibly well-done. The likeness to the real thing is uncanny. However, these sets have been immensely popular. The sets feature Marvel’s Avengers, DC characters such as Batman and Superman, and even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have made their way into LEGO form. The sets have been selling very well, so be sure to pick them up if you are interested! Below, you will find images featuring some of the sets:
